🎄 5 easy elf on the shelf ideas That Take Almost No Effort
1. The Cereal Box Dive 🥣
This is a classic for a reason—it’s fast and funny!
What you need: Your elf and an open box of cereal (any kind works!).

The Setup (2 Minutes): Simply stick the elf headfirst into the opening of the cereal box. Leave their legs sticking straight up out of the top.
The Message: It looks like the Elf got hungry during the night and dove into the snack stash!
2. S’mores Night Setup 🔥
Use things you already have in your pantry to make a little “camping” scenario. What you need: Two to three marshmallows, your elf, and two pretzel sticks. The Setup (3 Minutes): Put the elf against a wall or cabinet.

Put one marshmallow in their hand like they are eating it. You can establish a little “fire pit” nearby with the pretzel sticks, or you can use a pretzel stick to hold up a third marshmallow and form a fake roasting stick.
3. The Fridge Prisoner 🧊
A great way to use a door hinge or handle.
What you need: Your elf and a spoon (or spatula).

The Setup (1 Minute): Hang the spoon on the handle of your refrigerator. Wedge the elf’s arms or head under the spoon so it looks like they are trying to climb, or are somehow stuck by the kitchen utensil.
4. Reading Time with Friends 📚
Let the Elf blend in with the rest of your children’s belongings.
What you need: Your elf and 2-3 small stuffed animals or dolls.

The Setup (4 Minutes): Arrange the stuffed animals in a small semicircle on the floor or a shelf. Place the elf in the middle, sitting upright, with a small book (a picture book or even a DVD case) placed in front of them, as if they are reading a story to their friends.
5. Climbing the Christmas Tree ⬆️
The most festive, and perhaps the easiest, hiding spot of all.
What you need: Just your elf.
The Setup (30 Seconds – 2 Minutes): Place the elf somewhere high up in the main Christmas tree. Drape their arms and legs over a sturdy branch, or have them “peeking” out from behind a large ornament. The higher they are, the harder they are to find in the morning!
